    I recently heard about voice over acting, and I'm interested. I am new to this area. I have been a lector for our church & a narrator for another church. Many times, I have been told that I have a great radio voice and have the sound of a "Mexican Morgan Freeman" in our community. That's a great compliment. I never heard what I sound like. At the age of 79, this would be a new frontier for me. Thank you for the great info from a previous video.

    Imposter syndrome and analysis paralysis are THE biggest roadblocks to being successful at anything. In my previous life, I was in the medical field and we heard "fake it till you make it" a whole lot. After a while, you DO learn the ins and outs, but you have to work at it, and you can't let them know that you think you're an idiot, because THEY DON'T THINK THAT!!! They are coming to you.

    I have been a pro musician vocalist over 50 years and recently started seriously training VO. Rejection is part of it all we face some form daily. Believe in yourself don't allow thoughts to conquer your confidence. Most times, there is no rejection just mind junk not real.

    I enjoyed this video, but it also gave me some harsh realities. Currently I run my own dog walking business with ever changing hours and unpredictable hours. As well as trying to record and edit for 2 UA-cam channels which can take up to 30 hours or more out of my week, as well as trying to get I to voice over, do the training, and do self care, get exercise in, look after my pets. I've lost count of how many times I've hit burnout. The goal is to eventually stop the dog walking and do voice over and UA-cam full time. That's the goal. But the challenge of working out how to make more time is so difficult. Time management is difficult enough when you already work from 8am-110m most days. I'm desperate to get into voice acting and stop my dog business but trying to run, technically 3 businesses at the same time, is hard.

      I completely with your sentiment. I am working 50+ hours a week with irregular extended hours scattered throughout. It is incredibly hard to have a life outside of work. Full stop. Then add the difficulty of making the time to treat your space, practice, audition and market your business on top of that. The struggle against burnout is real. I think Anthony made some good points in the past also about making this work involves knowing and communicating with your family that you are investing time now for a future payoff in the future. Now to listen to that myself.

    Anthony, I’d like to mention this content in my next video. Having just made the decision to get into VO, this is very relatable. My biggest hurtle is knowing who to contact or when to start doing that. Anthony, I wrote a blog on LinkedIn about the Impostor Syndrome. Its tough. But like you mentioned, its after a number of jobs done successfully and actually realize you do and have done some really great work, you get over that. I am (over it). Auditioning, yes for the sake of getting the job, but also for the experience in auditioning and finding out what auditions work along with which ones got the jobs is important. I mean, you know that, so I'm not telling you anything new. But most people don't realize that. I say that I don't do anything (vo related) unless there are at least two reasons. Such as recording a ton of auditions for getting a job and for the experience of auditioning. Anyhow, I had to share that.

    I'm not criticizing you or your business, but could it be that when you search for information about any aspect of recording, microphones, editing, etc, you can find 100 videos by 100 different people who give you 100 different opinions on how you should move forward? I have done over a dozen audiobooks and I'm still stumbling in the dark! No wonder I am doubtful of my abilities! And I can't find a solution without paying hundreds of dollars for someone else's opinions that again, might not be correct.

    • @AVOsJOURNEY
      @AVOsJOURNEY 4 дні тому

      You make a really good point. There is sooo much information out there and a lot of it is conflicting. I always tell people to do your research and work with people that are actually making it happen. I know you want to find a solution without paying for education but we pay for education for everything we do. Voice over is no different.

      When you realise that there's a sea of seasoned professionals and a big part of their business/income is newcomers who are sometimes naive and then pay these professionals who prey on such individuals for their hard earned money. As a largely closed industry, us newercomers stand little to no chance of our VO careers taking off.

    I just started, and I been working with a voice over artist at my acting school. I showed him my DIY setup I had to do because my apartment set up is horrible for it (AC unit is in my closet 🤦‍♂️). He said my setup was good and liked the fact I made it portable so I can record anywhere. He also gave me great feedback on my commercial demo reel. I been going hard it since last week.

    Think about it. Fiverr takes 20%. Then they charge if you want more exposure and the Seller Plus. program. They keep looking for ways to take away your hard earned money. At the end of the day, I would venture to say they are slowly killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

  • @TheHorrorFactory
    @TheHorrorFactory 4 дні тому

    I cancelled Seller Plus like a month ago without even knowing they were raising the rates. I (like you) have simply lost the value that I’m getting from Fiverr in general. I go on vacation every year, and when I get back it’s always a crawl to my prior impressions and clicks. Not cool! I’m Getting more scammers reaching out, my “success score” is bull crap. Over 1000 jobs with a 5.0 star rating across the board and some of my gigs show 4. 🥺. I’ve made over $30,000 on Fiverr which is now triple what they even require for Top Rated, and I’m still level 2 as a result. Briefs are a thing of the past. So yeah I’m not drinking their kool-aid anymore. If I pay $40-$50 a month to them and all my stats are down then I'M a fool. To me, the best perk was being able to see how much a buyer typically has paid for services. My last gripe is even the tools they SELL to you like promotions and coupons bring your gig rates down when used. Sure you may get a job you wouldn't have otherwise, but why cant FIVERR take on the loss?! meaning if I have a 10% coupon or promotion, then Fiverr should cover the loss of 10%. They take 20%, i have to pay to promote gigs, then Seller plus….just joined voices.com which im sure has its own challenges but Im gonna try!

    Your video is on point, there's a lot of good advices. I'm struggling myself with time (and energy). I'm working full time in a call center to pay the bills and a lot of the time, my brain is fried in the evening and I don't feel like working on my business. So I don't. But recently, I thought that I should find a way to make it work while I'm at work. So I've built my website, set up a googly my business page for people in my local town to find. I'm really starting to try to mad myself known to the people. I've been trying hard on Fiverr and other platforms for 3 years but there's no way I'm going to live of voice acting as a French guy on these platforms cause most of the clients just don't have the budget. So I need to find the clients who got the budget to afford a proper voice actor.

    YOUR POSTS ARE SO HELPFUL. I've been told by a couple people (in the last week) to absolutely refuse coaches who recommend Fiverr. I am disagreeing with those people with the amount of insight I've received. I am going to take ypur Fiverr course and Audition course. These people told me to reach out to local marketing agencies and casting directors instead. I would do this while working with a coach because I am so new and have booked no work yet. But that seems so arduous and daunting at first maybe it is or isn't. What do you think about going the freelance Fiverr route in the early stages vs working with a coach (like you who I will approach soon!) And working with your local markets?
